Rooftop Greenhouse
|
The greenhouse is under new in-house management this year and is closed to the general public. We are using 2012 as a test year to create solid sales and operations. The goal is to re-introduce volunteers next year once the greenhouse has a set operational schedule. The most exciting greenhouse news for 2012 is that 100% of vegetable starts sold this year will be grown in our rooftop greenhouse. Additionally, the produce department will be growing, harvesting, and selling on its shelved bagged baby lettuce mixes and bulk basil from the greenhouse. Every year we will increase the quantity and variety of produce grown on the roof and sold in our stores--you can't get more local than that! Starting in early May, vegetable starts from our greenhouse will be available to purchase at the Co-op. Our seeds were carefully selected from the Fedco Seed Co-op in Maine and Uprising Seed Company in Bellingham and are organic, non-GMO, and disease resistant whenever possible. Kick off your own garden with tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers, eggplant, and basil from the Co-op! Check out our photo gallery to see Spring's progress! |
