Greenhouse Donations Needed
Thank you for your partnership and continued support of the Main Market Co-Op! As you may know, the Co-Op has a fully functional greenhouse at its downtown location on Main Street. We do not have the resources at this time to independently manage the greenhouse, but we do a have a small group of volunteers who have committed time and energy into utilizing the space to create a blooming, local, and of course, organic operation. As we grow and establish ourselves in our community with accordance to our mission, we understand that fresh, healthy produce should benefit all those we aim to serve. We have established a partnership with Catholic Charities of Spokane (CCS) to use the produce from the greenhouse to increase access to healthy food among the less fortunate in our community. A portion of the yield will go to our Bistro and Garden Starts Sale to help offset the cost of running the greenhouse (such as electricity and heat). CCS (Vinegar Flats Community Garden’s) project is dedicated to increasing access to fresh foods by establishing EBT (government assisted food buying) programs at Farmer’s Markets, partnering with local food banks, and developing community gardens in low-income areas.
As a Co-Op, we sincerely believe in and depend on you, our co-owners and community partners to achieve our goal of contributing to a healthier and more resilient Inland Northwest. If you have any resources you are able to donate toward helping us obtain the items listed below for the volunteer-supported greenhouse project, we would be so appreciative!
After taking inventory of the greenhouse space available, assessing its production capabilities and our existing supplies, we determined our needs to be as follows:
- Organic Soil – approximately $400 or 45.5 cubic feet of soil
- Plastic Pots – approximately $200 or 2,500 4-inch plastic starter pots
If you have any questions, please feel free to email email@example.com.
All donations can be dropped off at the Main Market Co-op (44 W. Main St.) or mailed to:Shannon McCloskey c/o MMC 44 W. Main Spokane, WA 99201
Thank you for your consideration of our request, and we look forward to a bountiful harvest!
