Our neighboring farmers are the integral component to a healthy & vibrant local food supply.  These dedicated men & women work tirelessly to provide fresh local food to our community and to care for their families.  Most often there are few hands available to accomplish a tremendous amount of work around the farm.  We help out by organizing work days to involve our Member-Owners and other community members in helping out with a variety of tasks including planting, harvesting, site preparation & large special projects.

Vinegar Flats Community Garden

When:  Several opportunities are coming up this Spring! We will be announcing March work parties soon.

What:  Volunteers will contribute in a variety of ways to the early season maintence of the garden, as well as vital preparation for the summer. We will be cleaning, planting & improving a new edible perrennial garden, and preparing the main vegetable garden for  our summer 2012 crop.

How to get involved:  Limit of 4 volunteers per day; RSVP by email to volunteer@mainmarket.coop.

Planning on joining us?  Please remember to…

·  Dress appropriately: long pants, closed toe shoes  (boots if it’s raining), gloves & layers (coats).  It is best to be prepared for changes in the weather, as it can be cool in the morning & turn hot quickly!  Or it can look clear and then turn to rain!

·  Bring lunch & LOTS of water!  The Co-op will provide yummy snacks, but please bring along a sandwhich etc. to keep you going otherwise.  It is also critical to stay hydrated, so please bring plenty of fresh water to drink!

·   Protect yourself from the sun, please wear sunscreen!  It’s good to bring a hat & sunglasses as well!
